Biography

Early Life

Rachel was the younger daughter of Laban, a shepherdess whom Jacob met at a well. Jacob loved her and worked fourteen years to marry her.

Defining Biblical Moments

Rachel's barrenness led to the use of Bilhah as surrogate, and later God remembered her and she bore Joseph and then Benjamin, dying in childbirth near Bethlehem. Her longing and weeping became a lasting image in Israel's memory.

Strengths

Rachel is remembered for beauty, deep love within her family, and enduring place in Israel's story as mother of two tribes.

Weaknesses & Lessons

Rivalry with Leah, envy, and the theft of Laban's household gods reveal how family competition and folk beliefs can entangle even favored figures.

Life Lessons for Today

Longing and loss are part of many faithful lives; being beloved does not exempt a person from sorrow, but God remembers those who wait.
